How Display Dimmer and the ClearDesk Tools website handle data.
Website
This website is operated by ClearDesk Tools and is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It does not set cookies or run analytics or advertising trackers. When you visit the site, ClearDesk Tools does not receive your browsing history or personally identifying information from this website.
If you contact Display Dimmer support by email, your message and email address are used only to respond and provide support. ClearDesk Tools does not sell or share support emails with third parties.
Display Dimmer app
Display Dimmer is distributed through the Microsoft Store. The app stores its settings locally on your device, such as brightness levels, schedule rules, per-app rules, themes, and feature preferences. The app does not include user accounts, in-app advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking libraries.
Display Dimmer reads technical information about your system and displays in order to function, for example: connected monitors, their capabilities (such as DDC/CI support), and basic information about your Windows and graphics environment. This information is used in-memory by the app to provide features like per-display control. It is not automatically uploaded in full to ClearDesk Tools and is not used to build a browsing or activity profile.
The app sends a small amount of anonymous usage and reliability telemetry to a ClearDesk Tools diagnostics service to understand how Display Dimmer is used and to improve stability. This telemetry consists of event-style data, such as:
- That the app was started (for example “new install” or “returning” and app version)
- Which settings tabs are opened (for example Schedules, App Rules, or Pro)
- When certain features are enabled (for example schedules, per-app rules, Gamma Guard, start with Windows, or DDC/CI brightness)
- Whether internal crash or hang detectors have been triggered
This anonymous telemetry does not include your name, email address, Microsoft account identifier, payment details, filenames, file paths, personal documents, browser history, or full hardware IDs. It is used in aggregate to understand which features are popular and to identify reliability issues. Detailed diagnostics reports, which can include more technical information, are described separately below and are only created when you choose to send them.
Optional diagnostics reports
Display Dimmer includes an option to create and send a diagnostics report when you choose to do so (for example, from a “Send diagnostics” or similar command in the app). Diagnostics are opt-in and are only created and transmitted when you explicitly request it. This is separate from the small anonymous usage telemetry described above.
A diagnostics report typically contains anonymous technical information such as:
- Windows version and build information
- Basic hardware details (for example CPU/GPU model)
- Monitor information (such as model names and connection details)
- Your current Display Dimmer configuration (for example: which features are enabled, schedules and per-app rules)
- Recent Display Dimmer logs, including error messages and timing information related to brightness control
Diagnostics reports do not include your personal files, filenames, file paths, documents, screenshots, browsing history, or passwords. The information is used only to investigate bugs, understand compatibility issues, and improve Display Dimmer. Diagnostics data is not sold to third parties and is not used for advertising.
Microsoft Store data
Display Dimmer is distributed through the Microsoft Store platform. Depending on Microsoft account and Windows privacy settings, Microsoft may provide ClearDesk Tools with aggregated statistics such as install counts, device and OS versions, regions, and app usage summaries. This data is anonymized and does not include the content of support emails, diagnostics reports, or payment card details.
Purchases and payment information for Display Dimmer and any future add-ons are handled directly by Microsoft. ClearDesk Tools does not receive your full payment card details.
